2009 Projects

Ten Esperance-based community organisations were selected to receive a total of $298,273 in financial support from the Magellan Metals Community Fund for a variety of local projects. These projects are expected to bring long-term sustainable benefits to a broad cross-section of the Esperance community.

Successful 2009 Projects:

  • $62,500 to Friends of the Esperance Jetty for an underwater study of the Esperance
    Tanker Jetty, to assess future restoration requirements
  • $50,000 to the Restore Hope Foundation Esperance, for a mobile commercial kitchen
  • $50,000 to the Esperance Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue Group to build a drydock for the rescue vessel “Volunteer 2”
  • $40,000 to the Quarry Road Bush Fire Brigade to build a new fire shed
  • $22,000 to assist the Esperance Historical Society Inc to establish a heritage walk

  • $22,000 to Adventureland Park towards a “Tower of Slides” at the Ralph Bower

  • $20,000 to the South East Runners Club to purchase a trailer/mobile clubhouse,
    including first aid facilities
  • $10,800 to St John Ambulance Esperance Sub Centre to purchase a Ferno E Stretcher
  • $10,973 to the Esperance Goldfields Surf Lifesaving Club for new equipment
  • $10,000 to the Esperance Brass Band to purchase a trailer to transport instruments
Other 2009 Magellan community project funding in Esperance 

In addition to the projects listed above, in 2009 the Magellan Community Fund also supported the Esperance CT scanner project, and provided special assistance to the Shire of Esperance in support of its promotional activities following the town’s selection as Guest Town at the Perth Royal Show.

 Community Fund Cheques

For the CT Scanner Project, Magellan contributed $50,000 in October 2009 towards the community fund established to purchase a new 16 slice upgradeable CT Scanner for the Esperance Hospital, to provide an improved local health care.  

Magellan also provided $8,500 to purchase interactive audio visual equipment for use by the Shire of Esperance at Perth Royal Show, and for future events to promote the town and the region.
