Establishment of Lead Baseline Trigger Levels

One of the key Ministerial conditions of Magellan’s approval to transport sealed shipments is that if monitoring identifies an exceedance of the lead baseline trigger level at any site, Magellan is required to undertake isotopic testing to determine if the lead is from the Magellan mine.

This section contains the following:

  • Lead Baseline Trigger Levels at February 2011 prior to Interim Implementation Conditions
  • Pre Transport Commencement Lead Baseline Sampling

Lead Baseline Trigger Levels at February 2011 prior to Interim Implementation Conditions

In mid-February 2011, prior to the Interim Implementation Conditions being announced by the Minister for Environment, Magellan Metals provided the following tables to the Office of the Environmental Protection Authority, which outline the Lead Baseline Trigger Levels at that time, derived via the procedure described in Magellan’s Health, Hygiene and Environmental Monitoring Program. These tables are referenced in the Interim Implementation Conditions, Condition 21.

Pre Transport Commencement Lead Baseline Sampling

Magellan Metals’ Lead Baseline Sampling Program, commenced in 2009, established existing lead levels along the transport route from the company’s mine site near Wiluna to Fremantle Port, prior to the first sealed shipment of lead carbonate concentrate.

Lead baseline trigger levels have subsequently been updated in accordance with the procedure described in Magellan’s Health, Hygiene and Environmental Monitoring Program.
